Tyrannosaurus dinosaur skeleton sold amid controversy
21st May, 2012
The skeleton of a species of Tyrannosaur (Tyrannosaurus Bataar) recently sold in New York for $1 million has sparked a controversy regarding the illegal export of fossils.
A legal challenge has caused the sale to be suspended – a restraining court order has been imposed in the name of the Mongolian President Elbegdorj Tsakhia.
The basis for the court order is the fact that it’s illegal to export fossils from Mongolia according to the President.
The sale will not go ahead until approved by a US court.
