A new relative of T Rex has been found in Utah, though slightly smaller than T Rex and living earlier in the late Cretacous.
Its been dubbed Lythronax argestes which means “king of gore”.
It was found together with a number of related species leading scientists to suggest that pockets of land were isolated by rising seawater at the time, leading to divergent evolution in a relatively small area.
This particular species was named “the king of gore” due to its apex predator status.
