Dwarf ‘vampire’ dinosaur was a plant eater

4th October, 2012

A new species of cat-sized dinosaur with porcupine-like spines has been discovered fossilised in South Africa.

Although thought to be an herbivorous heterodontosaur, this species boasted enlarged canines protruding from a parrot-like beak, thought to be used for defence or competitive sparring.

The specimen was initially discovered in 1983.
